The afternoon continues to the bear park on the banks of the Aar, where Bern’s emblematic bears live in a natural riverside enclosure — a nod to the animal that has symbolised the city for centuries. From there, the walk up to the Rosengarten delivers the reward: a rose garden perched above the rooftops of the old town, with a panoramic view over the medieval skyline and the great bend of the Aar below. One of the quieter, less crowded viewpoints in the city and one of the finest.
