The Morges Tulip Festival: Switzerland’s Most Beautiful Spring Event

Every spring, the small lakeside town of Morges transforms into one of the most breathtaking floral spectacles in all of Europe. The Fête de la Tulipe — or Tulip Festival — is a celebration of colour, nature, and Swiss elegance that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors from across Switzerland and beyond. If you haven’t experienced it yet, this is your sign to go.

A Festival with Deep Roots

The Morges Tulip Festival is no newcomer. This year marks the 56th edition of this beloved event, making it one of Switzerland’s longest-running and most cherished seasonal traditions. Organised by the association Morges Fleur du Léman, the festival has grown over the decades from a local floral showcase into a landmark event that attracts nearly 300,000 visitors each year.

What makes it so enduring? The answer lies in its simplicity. The festival is entirely free to attend, set in a stunning natural environment, and renewed every year with fresh themes, varieties, and surprises. It is the kind of event that invites you back, year after year.

The 2026 Edition: Contes et Légendes

This year’s theme — “Contes et Légendes” (Fairy Tales and Legends) — brings an enchanting, almost magical dimension to the already spectacular floral landscape. The Parc de l’Indépendance, the festival’s main venue nestled between Morges Castle and the shores of Lake Geneva, becomes a storybook setting where imagination and nature intertwine.

Over 140,000 tulip bulbs have been carefully planted across the park’s 30,000 square metres, showcasing nearly 350 different varieties. From classic red and yellow blooms to rare bi-coloured and fringed varieties, the diversity on display is remarkable. Each year, the compositions are entirely reimagined by the apprentice horticulturists of the Centre d’Enseignement Professionnel de Morges (CEPM), working hand in hand with the city’s parks and gardens teams. The result is a landscape that feels both curated and alive.

The festival runs from 27 March to 10 May 2026, giving visitors a generous window to experience peak bloom — generally at its finest between mid-April and early May.

What to See and Do

Beyond the flowers themselves, the festival offers a rich programme of activities for visitors of all ages.

Concerts and Performances. Throughout the festival, the park comes alive with music. From classical ensembles to folk performances and the charming sounds of barrel organs animated by passionate turners, there is always something to stop and listen to.

The Artisan and Local Produce Market. On select weekends, more than 40 artisans and local producers set up stalls within the park, offering handmade creations and regional specialities. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover the talent and flavours of the Vaud region in a uniquely beautiful setting.

Tulipo, the Children’s Trail. Younger visitors are invited to follow Tulipo, a themed treasure hunt designed for children aged 7 and above. Winding through the park with observation challenges, fun facts, and discovery activities, it turns a simple walk among the flowers into a full adventure.

The Story Bus. In keeping with this year’s fairy tale theme, a specially decorated MBC bus offers storytelling sessions for families — a delightful and unexpected addition to the programme.

The Potters’ Market. From 4 to 6 April, over 80 ceramic artists gather in the heart of the park for the Marché des Potiers. It is one of the finest craft events in the region, and the tulips make for an extraordinary backdrop.

Morges Castle Openings. The historic Château de Morges opens its doors for extended hours during the festival period, including several free-entry Sundays. An exploration game and exhibitions on the castle’s history and local legends add an educational dimension to the visit.

The Little Prince Exhibition at Musée Bolle. Running from 7 March to 7 June 2026, this special exhibition at the Musée Bolle celebrates the universal work of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry — a fitting companion to a festival steeped in imagination and wonder.

Practical Information

Getting to Morges is straightforward. The town is located on the main Lausanne-Geneva rail line, making it easily accessible by train from both cities in under 30 minutes. The festival grounds are a 10-minute walk from Morges train station.

If you are driving, the organisers strongly recommend using public transport, especially on weekends, when the park and surrounding streets can become very busy. Parking in the town centre is limited, and the train journey is part of the experience.

Opening hours: The park is open at all hours throughout the festival period.

Admission: Free. Some ticketed events and the weekend brunch (CHF 39 for adults, CHF 24 for children under 12) require advance reservation.

Best time to visit: Mid-April to early May for peak bloom. Weekday visits offer a quieter, more relaxed experience.
